How to Achieve More Time, Connection, and Impact as a Leader

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of a leader extends beyond just managing a team. It involves creating an environment that fosters growth, connection, and impact. At Pathrive, we believe in the power of effective leadership and have developed strategies to help leaders redefine their approach to time management, team connection, and impactful leadership.

Understanding Time

The first step to effective leadership is understanding and prioritising time. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but not everyone utilises this time effectively. As a leader, it’s crucial to make time for the things that matter and turn time into your most valuable asset.

Start by incorporating planning into the start of your week. This pause allows you to reflect and review past performance, enabling you to make educated decisions that best suit you, your team, and your business. Another crucial step is to eliminate distractions. Whether it’s turning off emails outside of business hours or silencing pop-up notifications, ensure that you’re fully present when it’s time to work.

Building Connections

Building strong connections with your team is as simple as implementing regular 1:1 conversations. These touchpoints provide an opportunity to give your full attention to each team member, fostering a stronger relationship. Providing feedback is a crucial part of these conversations, but remember, the right to provide feedback is earned through relationships, not titles.

Increasing Impact

To increase your impact as a leader, it’s essential to play your role and support your team in playing theirs. Many leaders fall into the trap of jumping in to save the day because they excel at the roles that report to them. However, true leadership lies in coaching and developing your team to take the reins.

Consider the story of Kylee. Before working with us, she was leading her team by “doing” and not taking the time to work on the business. Once she started implementing regular 1:1 conversations, she began to see the value she was providing her team and started prioritising impactful actions over day-to-day tasks.

Taking Action

We invite you to implement regular 1:1 conversations with your team.
If you question your ability to dedicate an hour per week to each team member, I want you to ask yourself this…
As a people leader, if you have 5 direct reports and are unable to dedicate 5 of your 38hrs to your team, are you really leading people?
Or are you just another cog in the wheel?
